The quick getaway of cruising — a long-weekend Bahamas hop with a private-island beach day, or a slower Bermuda run to pink sand and turquoise coves.
These two neighbouring runs share a homeport region but feel different. Bahamas cruises are the short-and-sweet end of the business: 3–5 night hops from Florida to Nassau and, above all, to the cruise lines' own private islands — Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay, Disney's Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay, MSC's Ocean Cay, Norwegian's Great Stirrup Cay — engineered beach days with waterslides, cabanas and swim-up bars. They're the perfect first cruise, sampler sailing or family long weekend.
Bermuda is a slower, more singular trip. Ships typically sail from New York, New Jersey or Boston and berth for two or three days at the Royal Naval Dockyard, so you get overnight time to settle into one place — pink-sand beaches at Horseshoe Bay, the pastel town of St. George's, snorkelling over shipwrecks and reefs. It's cruising as a mini-resort stay rather than a port-a-day dash.
Mass-market lines own the Bahamas short cruises (their private islands are the whole point), while premium and even luxury lines add Bermuda and the Bahamas to longer East Coast itineraries. For families, the private-island day is often the highlight of the week; for couples, Bermuda's multi-night berth is the calmer choice.
Bahamas sail year-round, best and driest November–April. Bermuda has a defined season, roughly April to October, with warm water in summer; the shoulders are pleasant and quieter but the sea is cooler. Both sit in the Atlantic hurricane belt from June to November.
