Luxury cruise line · 13 ships · sailing 10 regions — Adults-only, destination-focused sailing with understated Scandinavian design.
Viking Ocean is a premium small-ship line built around destinations and enrichment rather than onboard glitz. Founder Torstein Hagen pitches it as "the thinking person's cruise, not the drinking person's cruise" — adults-only (18+), with no casino, no waterslides, no formal nights and no nickel-and-diming, all wrapped in calm Nordic design.
Best for well-travelled adults and couples who want culture, enrichment and quiet elegance over big-ship entertainment. Families with children, and travellers seeking casinos, nightclubs or a party atmosphere, should look elsewhere.
The fleet is a run of near-identical Viking Ocean Class sister ships. The original ten (from Viking Star in 2015) carry about 930 guests in 464 staterooms; a slightly enlarged series beginning with Viking Vela (2024) carries about 998 guests in 493 staterooms. Every stateroom has a veranda. Newer hulls are hydrogen-ready, and Viking Libra (due 2026) is planned as the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship.
The standout vessels in the fleet — and the amenities that set them apart.
The original Viking ocean ship; debuted the Scandinavian Ocean Class template every sister follows.
Often deployed on Viking's longer world cruises.
Lead ship of Viking's slightly larger newest ocean series.
Fares include every restaurant with no specialty cover charge, among them The Restaurant, the World Cafe, the Italian Manfredi's and the multi-course, wine-paired Chef's Table. Norwegian-inspired Mamsen's serves heart-shaped waffles and open-face sandwiches.
Enrichment-led rather than Vegas-style: resident historians, authors and guest lecturers, cooking demonstrations, classical and jazz musicians, and live music in the Explorers' Lounge. There is no casino.
Adults-only. All guests must be 18 or older and there are no children's facilities or programming.
High-inclusion fare: one shore excursion in every port, Wi-Fi, beer and wine with lunch and dinner, all specialty dining, self-service laundry, and access to the Nordic Spa thermal suite are included. Premium drinks packages and additional excursions cost extra.
