River Active, culinary-driven luxury river cruising

A premium-to-luxury river line (founded 2002) that stands out for ship innovation — the double-width AmaMagna and twin-balcony staterooms — plus an included fleet of bikes and a complimentary wellness program, and acclaimed food and wine as the first river line inducted into La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. It is also the exclusive river partner for Adventures by Disney family sailings.

Who AmaWaterways is for

Active, food-and-wine-minded travellers who want upscale river cruising with genuine hiking and biking options, wellness classes and destination cuisine. More accommodating to families than most luxury river lines (minimum age 4, family cabins, Disney partnership), while still suiting couples seeking an elevated, active experience.

The fleet

Around 29-31 ships across six regions — Europe, the Nile, southern Africa, Southeast Asia's Mekong and, from 2025, Colombia's Magdalena. The European core is the Concerto-class twin-balcony ships (roughly 156-164 guests); the 2019 flagship AmaMagna is twice the width of a standard river vessel (194 guests). Recent additions include the Nile's AmaLilia (2024) and AmaNubia, plus AmaMagdalena and AmaMelodia on the Magdalena (2025).

The onboard experience

Dining

Regionally inspired, locally sourced cuisine that made AmaWaterways the first river line inducted into La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs; multiple venues include a complimentary Chef's Table specialty restaurant, and hand-selected wines, local beers and soft drinks are included with lunch and dinner.

Entertainment & activities

Evenings feature live music and regional cultural performances, but the line's real signature is active exploration — a complimentary fleet of bikes, guided hikes and bike tours, and daily host-led wellness and yoga classes.

Families & kids

More family-friendly than most luxury river lines: minimum age 4, family staterooms sleeping up to four, and the exclusive river partner for Adventures by Disney sailings with Disney-trained guides and kid-oriented programming.

What's included

Fares include shore excursions (often with gentle, active or biking options), wine and beer with lunch and dinner, use of bicycles, wellness classes and Wi-Fi; gratuities and some premium experiences are typically extra.
